The adopted village of Govt. Khawzawl College
As part of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) initiative, a field visit was conducted to Tualte Village on 29 January 2026, the adopted village of Govt. Khawzawl College, with the objective of carrying out an entrepreneurship development survey and understanding the local livelihood practices.
During the visit, the UBA team interacted closely with village representatives, farmers, and local entrepreneurs to assess the existing economic activities and explore possibilities for sustainable development. It was observed that the primary focus of entrepreneurship in Tualte Village is tomato farming, which serves as a major source of income for many households. In addition to fresh tomato cultivation, villagers have also shown initiative in manufacturing value-added tomato products, such as tomato pickle, sauce, and other processed items, indicating strong potential for agro-based entrepreneurship.
bbDespite the promising scope, several challenges were identified during the survey. The major problem faced by the villagers is the poor linkage road connectivity, creating difficulties in transportation of agricultural produce to nearby markets. Furthermore, the villagers expressed concern over limited sales and marketing facilities, resulting in dependence on middlemen and reduced profit margins.
The visit provided valuable insights into the strengths and challenges of Tualte Village. With improved water infrastructure, better road connectivity, and structured marketing support, tomato-based entrepreneurship in the village has the potential to grow significantly. The Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Cell of Govt. Khawzawl College aims to incorporate these findings into an action plan to support sustainable rural entrepreneurship and overall village development.
